555 Timer (freeware) http://lib.giveawayoftheday.com/555_Timer_78502/ is a sort of help file that helps technicians use the 555 timer to calculate component values of the capacitor and resistor to carry out specific projects. The program is very simple and offers the information in a clear way by categories separated in tabs. In the Help tab you will find detailed information on how to use the timer to calculate the respective values. This information is divided in basic and advanced, but I suggest you read them both, since they provide different pieces of advice and related problems. Then, there's another tab called Voltage, which explains how to set the voltage for the explained calculations. In the Monostable and Astable tabs, you will find graphics of circuits, where you can enter the calculated values and other data, such as ON/OFF times, and/or frequency and duty cycle. What is more, all the information can be printed to take it wherever you go. In short, 555 Timer is a simple and intuitive application that will allow technicians calculate values really easily and fast. ... Circuit Construction Kit (DC only) (freeware) http://lib.giveawayoftheday.com/Circuit_Construction_Kit_DC_Only_103166/ is an electric simulation model. It allows you to create circuits on your screen. You can add wires, resistors, batteries, light bulbs, and switches. It allows you to make very basic circuits. Bear in mind that this is a simulation that illustrates some of the principles of basic direct current circuitry. I don't think the tool is suitable for circuit testing. It was more likely intended to teach the basics of making circuits. To create a working circuit, you need to add a power source. In this case you can drag a battery to the screen. Then, you connect it to some wiring to both negative and positive ends. The wires will hopefully go to a light bulb. If you don't add resistors to the circuit, you will fry the light bulb. When the circuit is completed, the light bulb will light up. You can also add a switch to control the circuit. At the top of the screen there is a button Grab Bag. Inside this imaginary bag, there are a few objects that you can use with your circuit: a dog, a hand, a penny, a pencil, etc. There are also a few tools that you can use to measure your circuit current. There is a voltmeter, an ammeter, and a non-contact ammeter. Those can be added to the screen, and you need to drag and drop them to contact points for them to work. In short, this application proves to be a very fun way of learning the basics of circuitry making. « less Review licensed from Publisher description Build circuits with resistors, light bulbs, batteries, and switches. Take measurements with the realistic ammeter and voltmeter. View the circuit as a schematic diagram, or switch to a life-like view. Sample Learning Goals are : discuss basic electricity relationships, build circuits from schematic drawings, use an ammeter and voltmeter to take readings in circuits, provide reasoning to explain the measurements and relationships in circuits, discuss basic electricity relationships in series and parallel circuits. « less Comments Related tag/searches Circuit construction kit free download Circuit construction kit dc only Circuit construction kit setup free download Circuit construction kit app java Related software Circuit Construction Kit (DC and AC) Circuit Construction Kit (DC and AC) Circuit Construction Kit (DC and AC) - Fun, interactive, research-based... Circuit Construction Kit (DC and AC) (freeware) http://lib.giveawayoftheday.com/Crossword_Construction_Kit_28353/ is a simulation for building circuits. The University of Colorado also has a DC only version. This particular one allows you to build circuits on the screen that are powered by DC and AC current. To start building a circuit from scratch you simply drag elements from the menu on the right and drop them on the table. If you want to try an AC current circuit, you need to add the AC Voltage as your power source. If you are going with DC current, simply add a battery. The whole goal of the simulation is to get current that will power a light bulb. To complete a circuit with DC current you simply have to connect wires to the positive and negative ends of a battery into resistors and then into the light bulb. AC seems to work the same way. But I am thinking that you need to add a capacitor and an inductor to the circuit to get constant power. Unlike what happens in DC current, electrons move in both directions in AC current, so building a circuit entails the installation of different parts. The website for this application warns that there might be some bugs and usability errors in the application. I did found that the application becomes slow at times, but it was nothing too bad. « less Review licensed from Publisher description Circuit Construction Kit (DC and AC) - Fun, interactive, research-based simulations of physical phenomena from the PhET project at the University of Colorado. PSpice_Student (freeware) http://lib.giveawayoftheday.com/PSpice_Student_63952/ is an analog circuit simulator that was specially designed for Electrical Engineering students in need of simulating circuits and of solving circuits-related calculations. If you find yourself in the posture of not understanding a bit of what your professor is teaching you in Circuit Theory class, then you should definitely try this software. This piece of software will explain you the basics of electric circuits. In addition, it will simulate a circuit and will calculate its electrical characteristics. Furthermore, you can simulate the behavior of a circuit at a given intensity, amplitude or voltage. The big disadvantage of this software version is that the circuit simulations are limited. The circuit is limited to 64 nodes and 10 transistors. So, if you need to build a more complex circuit, you will have to try another version of PSpice. When you are ready to design your circuits, click on “draw/get new part” and a Part Browser window is opened. Now that the part browser window is open, all you have to do is type the name of a component. For example, if you need a transistor, type "transistor" in this browser window and select it. Once the parts are chosen, the next thing to do is place them on the circuit. That is very simple, just double-click the part you choose and the "transistor" is placed in the circuit design window. When all the components needed for your circuits are placed, the circuit is operational, which means your work is done. All you have to do now is play with the features of the circuits, features like: value, impedance, intensity, voltage, etc. In conclusion, if you find yourself unable to pass the circuit theory class, or you just want to design and simulate some circuits, this software is the solution.
TinyCAD (freeware) http://lib.giveawayoftheday.com/TinyCAD_42138/ allows you to design basic or complex electrical or electronic circuit diagrams. It has 755 symbols distributed in 42 libraries which include digital logic-gate circuits, connectors, analog circuits, microcontrollers, discrete components, electromechanical components, passive components, power sources, semiconductors, integrated circuits, mechanical symbols, and more. Each library can be edited, better yet, you can add your own symbols and add more libraries (TClib, mdb, and idx libraries are supported). At the left of the TinyCAD Main Window you will see the list of libraries. When a symbol is selected, it will be shown at the left bottom of the main window, and can be inserted on the schematic sheet. You can use the filter option to search for components or symbols. After you have added the components of your circuit, you can wire them by using the Wire tool, clicking on the terminals of the components - junctions are automatically created. The program automatically checks for duplicated references, unconnected items, unassigned reference designators, and more. The program includes a "PCB Export" feature that allows you to export the netlist of your circuit in order to create a printed circuit board - output formats supported: TinyCAD, PADS-PCB, Eagle SCR, Protel, gEDA PCB, and XML. You can also export the image to clipboard and print your circuit.
